NOAA Weather Radar Privacy Policy

This policy applies to NOAA Weather Radar for iPhone and iPad. The apps are developed and published by Christopher Coudriet, operating as Crushed Box Software ("we," "us," or "our").

NOAA Weather Radar is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by NOAA, the National Weather Service (NWS), or the National Hurricane Center.

Information We Process

• Location: With your permission, the app uses precise or approximate device location to provide nearby stations, radar, forecasts, and alert-area selection. Permission is optional. Selected locations or coordinates may be transmitted to weather or map services to provide the requested information. Firebase Analytics can derive approximate country or region from IP address.
• Notifications: If you enable alerts, our backend processes a notification token, app-installation identifier, device and app information, selected alert areas/types, notification subscriptions, and badge information to deliver your alerts.
• App activity and diagnostics: Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, and Performance Monitoring process app interactions, an app-instance identifier, device/OS/app information, crash reports, performance measurements, and network diagnostics to help improve reliability. These services can process IP addresses. Collection and available controls depend on your installed version, as explained below.
• Purchases: Apple or Google Play processes payments. We receive product and transaction/receipt or purchase-status information needed to verify and restore entitlements. We do not receive your full payment-card details.
• Support: If you contact us, we receive the message and any installation ID, diagnostic log, or other information you choose to include. Please avoid including sensitive personal information in diagnostic attachments.
• Local storage: Preferences, favorites, alert history, and cached weather or playback data may be stored on your device. Information selected for notification delivery or purchase verification is transmitted as described above.

Your Choices

Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, and Performance Monitoring process app activity and diagnostics to help improve reliability and usability. Contact us with deletion or privacy requests. Notification and location permissions can be changed in your device's system settings.

How We Use Information

We use information to provide weather, maps, radio where available, and alerts; verify and restore purchases; respond to support requests; protect our apps and services from abuse; and improve reliability and usability. We do not sell personal information.

Service Providers and Content Services

• Apple provides the App Store, purchases, Apple Maps, push notifications, and Apple weather data where used.
• Google Firebase provides analytics, crash/performance reporting, Remote Config, storage, app-installation services, and app-integrity checks.
• NOAA/NWS and other weather, imagery, map, or radio-content providers receive network requests when their content is used; these requests expose IP address and can include the requested location or station.

We operate backend notification and purchase-verification services hosted with DigitalOcean. Providers process information to deliver their services under their privacy and security commitments. We require service providers handling data on our behalf to protect it consistently with this policy and applicable requirements.

Retention and Deletion

Notification registrations and subscriptions are retained while needed to deliver selected alerts and may be removed when inactive. Purchase records may be retained as needed to verify entitlements, prevent fraud, and meet applicable obligations. Analytics, diagnostic, and support records follow the retention settings and operational needs of the relevant service. To request deletion or further information about retention, email support@crushedboxsoftware.com and include the installation ID available in Settings if possible. Disabling a permission or uninstalling does not itself delete all server-side records.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards. No transmission or storage method is completely secure.

Children's Privacy

The apps are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided such information so we can investigate and address deletion where appropriate.

Policy Changes

We update this page when our practices change and revise the date above.
